(ContentDesk) July 17, 2006 -- First-time Boston filmmaker Keith Dorrington is fighting back against corporate America by bringing his true life events in the working world to the big screen. Dorrington, a 44-year-old sales rep who had a key idea stolen from his boss, was forced out of a major company during a hostile merger. Instead of harping on his unfortunate incident, he decided to return to his rolodex, cash in some old favors and round up a handful of old business associates to star in his new Independent Film "The Merger". "Did you ever run into people during your life and think that they belonged in the movies," said Dorrington.
"Well, I went back and found them." The film hits a major nerve for anyone who has ever fallen victim to outsourcing, corporate downsizing and global takeovers.
The Merger is about three diverse corporate businessmen who are tired of the daily grind of unanswered prayers and the mundane life of working America and it's disappointing realities. After having their ideas stolen and being fired for disloyal and frivolous reasons, they decide to take matters into their own hands. In a moment of serendipity, they conceive an innovative and potentially lucrative new product that they decide they are going to market to the masses -- Mop Socks! Fortunately, the boys hit a homerun with their fresh brainstorm and leave their former employees in, no pun intended, the dust. Sometimes success is the best revenge.
The Merger is a quirky, adventurous indie film that is Office Space meets Wall Street.
Dorrington's first pitch documentary "The Fighter" resulted in a bidding war between an array of studios and eventually sold to Paramount Pictures.
It currently is in development. Instead of waiting for Hollywood to put the pieces together, Dorrington decided to take the independent film route with The Merger, pick up a digital camera, and shoot it himself with several local Boston producers. To add another odd twist to the film experience, the product idea they came up within the film - Mop Socks - is now being negotiated by several distribution companies who are contemplating launching them during the release of the film. Maybe true life success stories do happen to those who never say die.Edgartown Ventures is a film production company formed in 2003 by Keith Dorrington and Leslie Varrelman..
